Hip Hop dance is not a studio-derived style of dance. It began in urban neighborhoods without any formal process by street dancers. Hip Hop’s place in social dancing paralleled with the evolution of Hip Hop music. Dances such as Running Man, The Worm, and The Cabbage Patch are considered Fad Dances and became popular in the 90’s. More than 50 years old Hip Hop became popular when the First Street based dance crew formed in the 70’s. Wichita School of Performing Arts offers a Hip Hop class that combines a level of street dance with jazz funk mix. These dance lessons have a more pedestrian approach to movement, are offer from age 7 thru adult and are a lot of fun.
*This dance style is often available in our Summer and Fall Intensives.
